The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to complaints about commercial vehicle drivers violating traffic laws by holding an enforcement operation in the Central Valley area.
On October 8, 2026, troopers from CHP’s Merced Division partnered with the officers from the Chowchilla River Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility, and Central Division’s Mobile Road Enforcement team to conduct a “commercial vehicle focused Coordinated Integrated Traffic Enforcement (CITE) operation.”
CHP said that the CITE operation was held after the Merced Division received “numerous complaints about commercial vehicles speeding, traveling in improper lanes, and making unsafe lane changes on our local highways.”

“We appreciate the community members who have taken the time to report their concerns. Your calls and messages help us identify problem areas and direct enforcement efforts where they’re needed. Today’s operation may be over, but our enforcement efforts are not,” CHP said.

Troopers did not provide details on the number of traffic stops, commercial vehicle inspections, or citations issued during the CITE operation.

“While today’s operation focused on commercial vehicles, our commitment to traffic safety doesn’t end when the operation is over. Our officers are on the road every day, watching for dangerous driving behaviors involving ALL vehicles. Whether it’s a passenger car, pickup truck, or commercial vehicle, traffic laws apply to everyone,” troopers said.
Other CHP divisions have recently been busy enforcing California’s 55 m.p.h. speed limit for trucks statewide.
