Driver hauling groceries arrested after driving straight into store front on purpose

A truck driver is facing felony charges after driving through the front of the grocery store he was supposed to be delivering to.

The incident occurred around midnight on Thursday, September 17th in Nashville, Tennessee at the Aldi off of Gallatin Avenue.

According to Fox17, the truck drove through the front of the Aldi grocery store and stopped with the entire truck cab inside of the building. Police arrived to find 34-year-old truck driver Kristofer Scruggs still at the scene.

Scruggs told officers he had driven into the store on purpose. He denied any thoughts of suicide of homicide. Police observed no signs of impairment. Surveillance footage from the store shows Scruggs turning into the parking lot from Gallatin Avenue and accelerating in the moments before the crash.

The driver was taken into custody based on his own statements, and was booked into the Metro jail on felony vandalism charges. His bond was set at $35,000, reported WKRN.

Scruggs was hauling groceries for Aldi at the time of the crash. Damages to the truck, trailer, cargo, and store are estimated to amount to more than $250,000.
