The Kentucky Governor has signed an emergency regulation allowing veterans and active duty military to obtain a CDL more efficiently.
The emergency regulation was signed on Tuesday, September 29th by Governor Andy Beshear.
The change waives the written CDL test for current and former military service members who operated large, CMV adjacent vehicles during their service within the past two years. The goal of the regulation change is to ease transition into civilian employment for these service members.
“Our veterans sacrifice to keep us safe, and it is our sacred duty to make sure they have access to a good job and the same American Dream they’re willing to fight for on our behalf,” Beshear said in a statement.
“This step will help remove barriers and ease access to employment for those who’ve bravely and selflessly served, helping them better support their family who sacrificed alongside them. It’s the right thing to do,” Beshear continued.
Individuals who believe they are eligible can request an application to request a waiver from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Approval or disapproval of the request will be confirmed within 30 days of submission.
