Trucker reports locked steering led to load of Humvees littering I-295

Two Humvees were left scattered along Interstate 295 after a semi truck reportedly experienced a steering lock, causing a wreck.

The accident happened on Friday morning, October 9th in Hanover County, Virginia.

Virginia State Police report that, “at approximately 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, Virginia State Police responded to a crash involving a tractor-trailer on the exit ramp from Interstate 295 to southbound Route 301 (Exit 41B). The preliminary investigation indicates that the tractor-trailer, which was transporting two up-armored Humvees, was exiting I-295 when the driver reported that the vehicle’s steering locked.”

The tractor trailer crossed into the gore area and struck one vehicle before it lost its load, 6 WTVR.

“The tractor-trailer driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries,” police said.

The crash is still under investigation.
