Super Ego returns, bans non-domiciled, non-English speaking drivers

Super Ego, the notorious leasing company (or an elite motor carrier if you’re C.H. Robinson or TQL) is back in business operating out of the same address in Elmhurst, Illinois, and promising to straighten out its act.

Overdrive visited the company’s lot at 677 N. Larch Avenue in Elmhurst, Illinois, on Wednesday and found it largely empty, with all entrances and exits blocked off by white bobtails.

All trucks on the once-bustling lot had been scrubbed of DOT numbers and markings, but some of the trailers still bore the SkyBlue logo. Serbian sources say Super Ego’s Belgrade office rebranded to SkyBlue following the explosive “60 Minutes” expose in April.

But a new press push says the company is keeping its old name and instituting some new standards.

“Effective November 1, 2026, Super Ego will apply new safety and eligibility requirements to all new lease and rental agreements, any renewals of existing agreements, and all applications from existing customers for additional equipment,” a release read.

Customers looking to lease with Super Ego now will have to meet new criteria, including a minimum FMCSA safety rating. They will need to have no English language proficiency violations, and a regular CDL — not a non-domiciled one.

“Customers — including new customers, and existing customers applying for new leases or rentals — will be required to provide their current FMCSA safety rating as part of the application process,” Super Ego’s release said. Super Ego won’t lease to carriers with a Conditional safety rating, and said its equipment can’t be operated by anyone with a Conditional rating.

Super Ego’s customers will also need to submit driving records, “which Super Ego will review for English Language Proficiency (ELP) violations or deficiencies.”

The release singles out “[o]wner-operators whose records indicate an ELP violation” and said they won’t be approved “until the issue has been resolved with the relevant regulatory authorities and all required ELP eligibility requirements are met.”

Again addressing owner-ops, Super Ego said no non-domiciled drivers.

“Owner-operators with non-domiciled CDLs will not be approved to rent or lease equipment,” the release said. “Similarly, new applications from carriers whose owners have non-domiciled CDLs, or a non-domiciled identification document, will not be approved. All applicants will be required to provide current driving records and other documentation necessary to verify identity, CDL status, operating authority, and regulatory eligibility.”

Super Ego stressed its commitment to safety in the release, while maintaining that it is not a motor carrier.

In 2025, C.H. Robinson named Super Ego a Carrier of The Year and TQL named it an Elite carrier. Both brokers are now part of a federal racketeering lawsuit alleging they conspired with carriers in the Super Ego network to undercut compliant operations.

The Central Analysis Bureau (CAB), which invented the term “chameleon carrier,” helped CBS report its “60 Minutes” feature on Super Ego, and their investigation found Super Ego’s chameleon carrier network included some of the most dangerous fleets in trucking. Some of those fleets were found to cheat on hours of service by using fraudulent ELDs.

“Super Ego is not a carrier company, and does not employ or dispatch drivers, maintain electronic logging devices, or transport freight, as an equipment lessor, Super Ego has always believed it has a meaningful role to play in setting clear safety standards around who operates the trucks and trailers our customers put on the road,” the company’s release said.

When Overdrive visited Super Ego’s lot, a security guard said the company no longer owned the facility, and that new owners had turned it into a shop.

Later, Overdrive received a statement from a communications firm on behalf of Super Ego saying they do in fact own and operate the facility. The Larch Avenue location is listed for sale, though the pictures are outdated and show when the facility was formerly a Comcast outpost.

“Super Ego Holding continues to operate at its Elmhurst, Illinois, location. While the company is currently exploring potential new property locations as our business and services continue to grow, our existing operations in Elmhurst are continuing,” the communications firm said. “We remain focused on serving the more than 1,200 licensed carrier customers who rely on us, and that work goes on as usual.”

A class action lawsuit representing drivers who say they were underpaid and overworked by Super Ego-affiliated carriers was recently allowed to proceed in court.

Super Ego accompanied the press push with a series of AI-generated videos on YouTube that show fictitious people at a different location advertising the company’s services.
