The Kentucky State Patrol (KSP) highlighted numerous serious tire defects uncovered by monitoring technology at a scale facility in Kuttawa this week.
On October 28, 2026, KSP Public Information Officer Michael Smith took to social media to share serious tire violations discovered this week at the Interstate 24 East scale facility.
Smith said that KSP officers monitoring trucks at the I-24 facility “identified numerous tire-related issues, including flat tires that drivers were completely unaware of by utilizing thermal imaging cameras and tire pressure monitoring systems.”
The inspectors were able to use the tire monitoring technology to stop the trucks before “these vehicles continue traveling along the interstate.”
“These findings are a powerful reminder of why commercial vehicle inspections and monitoring are so important. A tire issue that goes undetected can quickly become a serious hazard, potentially placing the commercial vehicle operator and everyone sharing the roadway at risk. Attention to detail and the use of available technology help identify potential safety concerns and reduce the risk of preventable crashes,” Smith said.
