Motor carrier enforcement officers identified multiple violations in the wake of a semi truck bridge strike in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
According to a September 11 statement from the Scranton Police Department (SPD), officers responded to Luzerne Street and Railroad Avenue after a report that a semi truck struck a bridge and fled the scene.
The truck was tracked down to the 500 block of North Main Avenue and a traffic stop was initiated.
“The subsequent investigation uncovered multiple violations. Police determined that the driver was operating with a suspended driver’s license, the tractor had no valid registration, and the trailer had not been inspected since 2020,” said SPD.

The truck driver was additionally charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia in addition to the traffic and vehicle code violations.
“This incident demonstrates the importance our our trained/certified Motor Carrier Enforcement officers keeping unsafe commercial vehicles off Scranton’s roads. The Department remains committed to proactive enforcement and has a zero tolerance for commercial vehicles being operated in an unsafe condition,” said SPD.
