Truck overturns swerving to avoid traffic, fatally flattening car

Two women are dead after a tractor trailer overturned onto their car in New Jersey on Tuesday morning.

The crash happened at 9:08 a.m. on Interstate 78 in Newark, New Jersey.

According to ABC7 NY, a semi truck was unable to stop in time to avoid stopped traffic on I-78 eastbound, forcing it to swerve. As it swerved, the semi truck overturned, causing the trailer to land on a passenger car.

Two women inside of the car sustained fatal injuries – 42-year-old Ayesha Wright and 25-year-old Kendra Rouse. The truck driver sustained minor injuries in the accident.

The cause of the slow traffic that led to the crash is still under investigation. No further information has been released.
