Indianapolis police urge truckers to plan their routes and stop wasting officers’ time

Indianapolis police claim drivers are wasting city resources by refusing to use truck route software and getting stuck downtown instead.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department recently reported an increase in traffic jams created by commercial vehicles encountering the low bridge at 300 S. Meridian Street in Indianapolis, Indiana, reported Wish TV. Investigators say that the truck drivers realize the low 12 foot, 4 inch clearance either by getting stuck underneath the structure, or noticing the posted height sign and stopping before it’s too late. Either way, traffic backups occur from the stuck truck, or the ordeal of getting the rig turned around.

The IMPD warns truck drivers that these incidents create gridlock that disrupts commuters and visitors, and drains city resources, directing officers and other municipal staff away from important downtown public safety operations. IMPD is instructing truck drivers and carriers to begin utilizing truck-specific navigation platforms to avoid routes not appropriate for commercial vehicles.

Officers say that this sort of proactive planning by truck drivers and trucking companies will help to eliminate damage to city property and unnecessary traffic delays.
