Truck drivers in the midwest were given free lunches as they waited in line to deliver their harvests to the processing plants.
Truck drivers waiting in line at the South Dakota Soybean processors in Volga, South Dakota, and truck drivers leaving the grain elevators in Moweaqua, Illinois were handed lunch bags full of pork burgers, chips, and cookies to finish off last week.
“We just serve every trucker that comes in, and if they want to take sack lunches back to their fields, we let them do that,” said Kari VanderWal, soybean procurement manager at South Dakota Soybean Processors, to AG Week.
“I think it’s important because you want to make sure your customer understands they are appreciated and not just that we expect them to come here, because we don’t. We know we have to be customer friendly and moving trucks through the lines and things like that,” VanderWal said. “So, this is just a thank you for them for their business.”
Meanwhile, at the grain elevators, high school students organized the lunches as a show of appreciation – a gesture the students organize each year.
“We do this every single year,” FFA senior Isabella Martin said to WAND News. “Farming is a really important part of our community.”
