Multiple truck drivers and carriers face charges after the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) caught them in violation of speed limiter requirements during a four day period.
Between October 23 and 26, 2026, North Bay OPP officers conducted speed enforcement details on Highways 11 and 17 in Powassan and Calvin Township.
As part of the speed enforcement, OPP stopped seven commercial vehicles for driving at speeds of between 116 km/h and 122 km/h in posted 90 km/h and 100 km/h zones.
Ontario law requires most commercial vehicles to be equipped with speed limiting devices to stop them from exceeding 105 km/h to “improve highway safety by reducing excessive speeds and decreasing the severity of collisions involving large trucks.”
Police took enforcement action against both the trucking companies and drivers for the violations.
“Drivers and carriers were charged for operating or permitting the operation of commercial motor vehicles not equipped with a functioning speed-limiting system. Speeding charges were also laid against the drivers,” OPP said.
