Indiana State Police (ISP) troopers say a truck driver took an impromptu bathroom break prior to a serious crash that left another truck driver hospitalized with significant injuries.
At 3:30 a.m. on September 8, ISP responded to a crash on I‑80/94 eastbound at the Burr Street exit ramp in Gary, Indiana.
According to ISP, the preliminary investigation indicates that a semi truck hauling Amazon packages was stopped in the gore area, or the berm between the ramp lane and the interstate travel lanes.
“The driver had exited the vehicle and was reportedly standing outside the truck urinating when another semi‑truck sideswiped the parked truck,” ISP said.
Troopers said that the driver from the moving truck, Garbiel Corral, 33, of Chicago, was ejected in the crash. Corral was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The driver from the parked truck, Ahmed Taher Hussein Al Subari, 31, of Dearborn, Michigan, was not hurt.
Troopers said that the eastbound lanes of I‑80/94 were restricted for eight hours after the crash for cleanup and investigation.

ISP’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division is assisting with the investigation.
Charges may be filed after the investigation is complete, ISP said.
